When I look out my window what do I see?
A whole lot of good people struggling to be
And I know that if we struggle right along
Heaven knows, we’ll find a place where we belong
through all my woes I can almost see the promised land
When I look in my mirror what do I see?
A whole lot of changing faces telling me they’re me
Now I know that if I look them in the eye
I will grow although I can’t say just how high
Heaven knows I can almost see the promised land
When I look at my TV what do I see?
A whole lot of smiling faces want me to believe
Though I know that if I put them to the test
they will go and leave the whole damn thing a mess
and so it goes I can almost see the promised land
Hold on to your freedom or it will take wing and fly
and the cost of your freedom is that you can’t live a lie
No you can’t live a lie
When I look at the problems that perplex our time
the unfulfilled potential rotting on the vine
Then I know that if we act it’s not to late
to hoe the row and change our destiny and fate
from high to low I can almost see the promised land
